SUSTAINABILITY STOOD OUT THE MOST AT N&S GAIA’S SS18 COLLECTION. DESIGNED BY SIDHARTH SINHA, THE COLLECTION TOOK ON THE RESPONSIBILITY OF ECO-FRIENDLY FASHION.

This article was originally published on The Fashion Conversation.

Driven by the Western sensibility, Sinha’s designs are always researching and developing the Natural Dyeing technique of North East India. The New Delhi alumnus, who has since the beginning been committed to using natural fibres in his designs is paying again tribute to the environment in his SS18 collection.

Serenity set the theme, featuring dresses in a free-flowing silhouette coming in a modern-traditional Indian twist. Floral embroidery on shoulder parts and chest as well as black beads represented the repetitive key element of the show. In close-up garments showed delicate embroidery on collars paying tribute to the modernisation of Dakmanda a hand-woven embroidery technique of the Garo tribe in North East India. Also, trousers appeared wide-legged, tops wrapped around and accentuated around the shoulders.

In contrast to his previous collection that was all about vibrant and punchy colours, this one took a step back from the boldness into the pastel colour range. Exaggerated ruffles played strong as seen on crepe tops and dress hemlines, coming in a sweet pastel rainbow palette. The collections signature silhouette equalled the one of a shift dress, but with a floating element to it. The results were long hemlines and tapestry motifs. Dresses played out well with colours ranging from light rose pink, emerald greens and sky blue, to sun yellow and orange and white tones. The colours chosen for each piece were a homage to mother nature, with each colour reflecting the world’s scenery in its purest form.

Regarding makeup, beauty looks were perfectly matching each look, with a colour explosion that reminded of the richness occurring in Indian Colour Festivals. Lips kept in the colour of roses with paint splatters in different colours complemented the outfits, underlining the airiness in each of them.

The ‘N’ and ‘S’ that stands for Nature and Sustainability in N&S Gaia makes not only the brand’s hallmark but is also what the clientele values them for. Are we moving closer to eco-friendly fashion? N&S Gaia’s SS18 collection was the answer to that and proved that fashion could be both; upcycled and magnificent at the same time.
