The Indian designer, best known for his designs seen in Bollywood films and dressing some of the elite including Beyonce and Paris Hilton, went next level with his latest designs. The collection itself that was feminine and pure touched upon Rocky’s mythical inspiration of the Maya period.
Silhouettes were accentuated, asymmetric and draped around the hips coming in sequins and beads. Shoulders came in different versions, either fringed, off the shoulder or maxi and loose. Seen through floor-length embellished gowns that were almost Haute Couture level, the designer proved his exceptional handicraft and technique.
With silhouettes going strong, the accessory game was very much on point. Pouches from the 20s styled up with opulent chokers, and diamond look-alike headpieces set the theme of the show. Models wearing thin braids and cobalt blue smoky eyes walked down the runway casting a spell over visitors in sparkly golden flapper dresses. Depicting on the elements of the 1920s’, Rocky Star used the ancient plating technique making the signature accent on tops, shorts and hemlines. Also seen on his final look that closed the show, the chainmail pattern used on the top perfectly complemented the airy tribal printed maxi skirt.

More on the side of Ready-to-Wear, the SS18 collection resembled a playful mashup of evening wear and Bollywood costumes. Forest-depicting prints mixed with Kaftans and short, luxurious dresses styled with chainmail flappers were the result. With the butterfly used as a repetitive symbol in garments, in Indian culture it signifies transformation like one of the caterpillars into the beautiful butterfly. Overall Rocky Star’s collection was a success. The show did not only invite visitors into a Bollywood world but also one that is about individuality and fearlessness in fashion. By paying tribute to his roots with the butterfly pattern he also spoke of unconventional beauty. Rocky Star proved that fashion is shying away from mass trends and finally becoming individual again with great prints and sharp silhouettes.
