What do you think of when someone talks of the Eighties? Probably Papa Don’t Preach and Like a Virgin by Madonna, Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Walkers Crisps in their very first version and super big shoulder padded blazers.
Fashion was by far the boldest, with juicy yellow, electric blue and Day-Glo overalls and bodysuits. Eighties fashion was lively and influenced by the emerging Pop music scene. The style was pretty much maximalist with bold brooches and screaming pink creoles. They gave birth to MTV, big boom boxes and so-called VJs. The beauty department was booming and perms were the biggest thing, literally the bigger the better, and everyone was dying for curly hair like Kelly McGillis in Top Gun or Baby in Dirty Dancing.
The bad news, they’re not coming back 1:1. The good news, fashion has reworked some of the biggest ’80s trends on catwalks to wear for Fall this year. What makes the Eighties so special and why Lucy and I decided to give it a go in our recent photo shoot, is that they can be easily integrated into your daily wardrobe by adding only one or two pieces. From Topshop to Mango and Vintage stuff; by the time you get to the end of the page, you might want to stock up on some of the bad-ass pieces!
