When was the last time you wore a conventional underwire bra? Probably ages ago. Celebs go braless – just think of Kendall Jenner and her nipple outcome – and companies like Bluebella are selling out on their see-through Nova bras. What happened to the well-known bra design? Over the past few months, it has been adapted in many ways; we’ve got to know non-wired T-shirt bras that are perfect for quick running sessions, the good old push up bra with developed padding for a sexy bust and last but not least the lace bralette trend reduced to its natural thin layer of translucent fabric. However, the #freethenipple movement that had been introduced by Cara Delevingne in 2o14 in order to fight for free ‘nippling’ on Instagram seemed to completely fail this month; the stick-on nipple trend is a biggie right now, but exposing your own remains a taboo. The fashion industry has since come up with bras suitable for any occasion, but this trend is by far the most ridiculous one I’ve ever seen. Hot or cold nipples, in or out; You’ve got two of them, but keep it real.
I’m all about perfect fitting sports bras. Believe it or not, I have started integrating them into my everyday wardrobe and they are seamless and work perfectly for long days running errands in the city. After having worn underwire bras for years I came to the conclusion that they’re not for me. From punctures, rashes and skin irritations thanks to the expose of the underwire metal I decided to go all natural with bra designs that are seamless and reduced to their minimum. Call it a comeback of the ’20s, but I believe over comfort than size when it comes to bras. My current favourite: the lace bralette.
