Suddenly I found myself standing in a church close to High Street Kensington. A few minutes left and the Baota London SS17 show was about to begin. The press hasn’t arrived yet. I looked at the room, the beautiful white ceiling and brown bank rows that had blue goodie bags sitting on them.
In an interview earlier this month, Bao explained what his inspiration was behind his newest achievement. Today I saw Haute Couture coming to life, in colour and shape. Kanye’s tracks were playing, while everyone was waiting for the backstage doors to open. Suddenly a woman went up to the lectern, with a mic in her hand and started to sing. I was surprised. I haven’t expected someone to perform live in a church.

Her breast was covered with black feathers and her nipples hidden under golden buttons. My camera was too slow and I figured out that I’ve chosen a worse place to sit.
Next up was a black negligee and a blue satin coat worn on top. It was the answer to the designer’s vision of sensual and gladiatorial chic. The call to female empowerment was seen through a range of strong colours throughout the collection. Besides blue, dresses and jumpsuits appeared in red, black, nudes and gold. The hand-printed golden butterfly was a signature motif this season, gracing trains and magnificent gowns. The final look of the night featured a golden Harness, that was tightened up around the model’s breast. Functioning like a corset, it seemed to push the model’s posture significantly, to a more dignified stance. Makeup and hair were strong and vivid and underlined the powerful walk of the models.

Thanks to Baota London’s experience it won’t be my last.
